Introduce Yourself : America's First Rascal, and First American Poet in English by Jack Dempsey

America's First Rascal, and First American Poet in English

Do you think Americans should know and would enjoy the true life-story of their first poet in English---especially as he was also America's first "criminal exile"? Thomas Morton---a bold and witty Renaissance man who founded "Merrymount" plantation not far from the needlessly starving and terrified Pilgrims of Plimoth---became such a multi-sided success on the original American frontier that the Puritans just "had to" cut down his Maypole, burn his beloved home and hoist him out of the country in a cow's harness. Morton's crime? He objected to (and did something about) America's being reduced to a racist labor camp run by ignorant evangelicals. This ('MERRYMOUNT: A True Adventure Comedy') is the film that's going to happen before the Pilgrims' big 400th anniversary in 2020! Lots more info with photos, interviews, music and film clips at ANCIENT LIGHTS dot org, and here with my Stage 32 Project. Meanwhile come and join the Revels of May Day 2013 at Maypole Hill in Quincy, MA on Saturday May 11th, from 11am-2pm!
