My first feature film is finished! Three and a half years of exhilarating hard work and it's actually done: The Right Juice. Currently in the process of submitting to festivals and reaching out to distributors and sales agents. Initial reactions are great, so confidence is high. With a bit of luck this will be a great year. Do the festival rounds with the film, nail distribution, hopefully a theatrical release. Good times. And of course, next steps. Looking for the next project. I've definitely got the long form bug and I can't wait to sink my teeth in a new script. Have a great 2014 everyone! Kristjan Director

I wish you all the very best for your movie's release. I know what it takes to get a film made, am glad that you have done it. Me and my friend who is the DOP we have a life time dream to make our first Action feature film and we have been working on that for years now but there are never ending problems in the way sometimes i weep and cry but still hope to complete the film one day and show to the world what we have. Regards & Respects

So glad your comment showed up in the Stage 32 e-newsletter feed. What a delightful-looking film! Please add cheryl@20kfilms.com to any email list so I can get out in support. I'm just outside SF or Sacramento in CA in case you show around here. (I'd definitely list your main website here too... sorry, the marketing person in me always jumps out!:) Totally love the energy in your film and can't wait to see that chase scene. Kudos and big CONGRATS!
Thanks Cheryl! I'll add you to our mailing list. There's an FB page too, search The Right Juice. And I love that the marketeer on you jumps up :)

Hi Nicholas. Weeeeelllll... that's a big question. Depends on what stage of development your in. A big do is 'keep writing'. Don't start shooting till the script is absolutely as good as it's ever going to get. And also don't be afraid to keep writing during production. You get to know your actors and that sometimes requires rewrites, scrapping scenes, or even adding scenes. A big don't is don't get bogged down by technical stuff like what camera to shoot on. Not the most important thing by a long shot. It'll work out. Do spend as much time as you can afford finding and securing the absolute perfect locations. Don't make do with a location that is good, or generic, or accessible. Keep searching till you get the best location possible. I like to think of locations as characters in the story. What do they say? What do they represent? How do they help the mood, the narrative, the characters development? Do get your editor involved as soon as possible. Definitely during production, but preferably even before, during the final stages of writing. Editors have an invaluable vision on visual storytelling, pace and timing. Use that in fine tuning the script. Don't underestimate the importance of attitude on set among your crew. For example one of the folks that has a huge influence on an actors performance is the boom operator. If she's standing there frowning or looking bored the actor will feel it and the performance will suffer. Aldo, the make-up artist. He's the person your actress spends a lot of time with, specially first thing in the morning. If the actress has had a really crap night, or fight with her agent/partner/co-star/mother/dog then the make-up person is in the perfect spot to help her get out of her funk and ready to shoot. Do trust your AD. Let them do their job and don't second guess them. And my favorite directors advice is from David Mamet: 1. Be on time 2. Smile 3. Keep out of everyones way I could go on but this is turning in to an full blown article! Good luck mate! Kristjan

Congratulations, Kristjan! I wrapped my first feature two days ago and still can’t move my body! You must be so thrilled. I sure hope to have your level of enthusiasm in a few months when we’re nearing completion. Wishing you all the best!
Hiya Harris. hoho a few months. Post-production took me 16 months! What with the editor only being available a week or two at a time between other long jobs, reshoots, the composer pulling out last minute and having to find another and then the sound design that just took forever! But hey, gotta keep positive :). Good luck in post. Having it in the can is a great achievement. One thing I learned is there is no shame in reshoots or going out and getting extra coverage if you find it needs it in the edit! If at all possible of course!

It's a great feeling! And will be repeated with each one. Especially during the rewrites. ;-)

Just re-read your post, Anna, and giggled. I'd missed it when I first read it. No re-writes for me on this one, 'y see the actual movie is finished :), not the script!

Yippeee! The film will have its world premiere at the Atlanta Film Festival. I'm thrilled and really looking forward to it. Anyone in or around Atlanta, please consider coming to the screening: Sunday March 30th, 1.45pm at the Plaza Theatre on Ponce de Leon Ave. Maybe see you there!
Rocking and rolling!
