$$$ We're going to be launching a new Television station this fall exclusive to the Independent Film Community and we're working out what the per minute rate would be to pay Film Makers to allow us to air their works on our station. I have something in mind, but would like some input from you guys, if you would toss out a rate you feel would be fair and attractive along with how you arrived at that figure, that would be awesome. Thanks www.theindependentnetwork.us
That would be great Art, I'll drop you a note.
I would love to hear more about it.
sounds real interesting
Would be interested in knowing a bit more than what you've said here. Specifically what type of independent projects (shorts, documentary, features, etc) as well as who will be in charge of making the selections, how to submit, etc. Thanks
here is a link you can check out - http://hstrial-potentialenergyp.homestead.com/TIN.html?_=1386998054183 - We're putting together a Research & Review board where each project submitted will be viewed by groups of five people with a thorough rating system covering everything from writing and acting to effects and overall opinion. We're leaning towards the more entertaining genres like comedy/action/adventure/anime/thriller/fantasy etc... We don't expect each piece to be G Rated, but Language standards will be similar to traditional television standards. It's not carved in stone yet, but we're looking at a starting base rate of $15 per minute for licensing fees on approved projects with contracts for 1,3,5 and 10 years. It would work where every time we air that content is when the check goes out to the project. We are looking for everything from shorts and series to feature length films. We're looking for completed projects to air as well as groups and individuals to collaborate with on future projects. To get a better idea of what we're all about go to www.thefanfilmproject.com
one thing I can say for sure, you need a graphic designer. the site looks full featured, but chaotic. it's a wonderful idea. I wish you much success and hope to be submitting plenty of content.
Hi Joe, can't argue with you there, working on putting together a web team for design, build and upkeep, so better days ahead :) Looking forward to checking out your submissions when the time comes. Thanks
Looking good Kirk, keep at it.
Thanks Simon :)
I would think your rate would be based on your advertising revenue. I can't confirm this but recently , I read network take in 10 times in ad revenue than the cost of the show. So a show that cost 1million to make would gross them 10 million in ads. I don't know if that's true. Back in the eighties I sold a short to showtime/movie channel when they bought shorts that is and they paid me like 2500 for a 3 1/2 minute film but they had the right to play it as much as they wanted for one year.
What we're looking at is instead of paying out a lump sum we're doing a per minute base rate where each time with in the contract period that production is aired a check goes out. By the end of the contract year it would add up to more than what showtime or Netflix would pay out, so it would be a win win situation. This gives us time to get established and build up our advertising revenue with out over extending ourselves. Down the road once we're established then we could give the client the option to take a lump sum now or do the per minute rate that would pay out more over time.
That actually sounds good, Speaking only for myself we would also be looking for a way to gain recognition for our show my linking our web site, social media pages or You channel.
It's all about promotion and collaboration :)
Hi, If you are interested, I produce a growing entertainment TV show called "Sidewalks Entertainment" with celebrities (featuring film, TV, music stars). Our website at http://www.SidewalksTV.com.
Hi Richard! Yes we'd be interested in airing your program. Where is the video for the Matt Smith (plays the 11th Doctor) and Karen Gillan interview? I'm not finding a video link at that spot on your website.
The Doctor Who link to the interview is located at: http://www.sidewalkstv.com/web/video-doctor-who-stars-on-sidewalks-tv-2010/
That's where I was before, there are two pics, the on top of the article goes nowhere and the one at the bottom expands into a larger photo, but not find a video to click on.
Please give me more information about this. I'm definitely interested

Cool, best of luck with that. Keep me in the loop.
Well, it's a long road, but I will keep you posted with anything more that comes up. Is your website going to free with ads, or a pay service like Netflix?

Free with ads making it available to everyone :) On a good note for viewers, we will be running less commercials per spot than most networks.

Looks funny, is it finished ?
I agree, the site is a bit goofy looking, but that can change. Great concept. I'm in.
Our new site is up for The Independent Nework - www.theindependentnetwork.us
I'm in sounds fabulous!!!!
Hello Kirk, still looking for content?
Yes, that will be a never ending pursuit, you got something for us to look at?
www.theindependentnetwork.us
I'd like to stay in touch, Kirk. If you come across any films about architects or architecture, I'd like to know. I write about "architectural storytelling" on my blog, Building Content. ~ Great success to you in this venture!
Thanks Collier, wish you success as well :)
Would a 3-hour edition of THE GREAT MOSCOW CIRCUS be of interest? It contains extensive behind the scene rehearsals. Its 10 years old.
It'd be worth taking a look at.
Scroll down to view a cover here: http://www.hollywoodhousevideo.com/
So what is your involvement with this piece?
I produced it 10 years ago. The footage was licensed officially by MosFilm Studios.
Yeah, as long as you have the rights to it we'd be interested.
I do.
Are you only interested in films Kirk? I have a TV show in development. It's a detective series.
Nope, we're interested in shorts and series as well. Does your detective series fall under comedy or action?
Damedy. Think Monk meets Murder she wrote :p Geared toward family viewing, but designed for woman and young professionals.
Hi Kirk! I have a new production company called Eden Entertainment. We have a mini comedy series, a documentary series, and a short film that I would love to be considered for your network. Here is a promo for the documentary series... http://vimeo.com/85035379

Is The Independent network interested in developing its own series?

We wold be interested in checking out the comedy when that is ready, but for our line up we're not looking for dramas or reality TV type productions.
There are a few series we're looking to create. Some original and some that are a means of putting together other peoples works together, like an SNL of unrelated skits from all over into a comedy show. Doing that with a couple other genres as well to help give exposure to the smaller worthy projects that tend to get burried on you tube.
I am creating a comedy spoof on singing contest that I'd like to get Chris Rock to host! Working on it now!
That would be awesome! Keep me in the loop.
did u get the link from us.

WOW! Love the Hero tune, great stuff! Down the road we are going to be starting our own record label and if you haven't been snatched up by then I'd definitely be interested in signing you on. If you're interested we could start promoting your work with our television network. Skimmed through the FB page and missed the information about a TV reality series, if you could clue me in on that I'd appreciate it. Thanks, again that hero song rocks out I'd buy that :)

Hi Josh, going through your videos now, some cool stuff.
Thank you, Kirk. I'm getting set to release my new feature film "Lack of Cockery" this month. Should be pretty cool - www.facebook.com/lackofcockery
Sounds great Josh, congratulations, keep us in the loop.
I hope to send you sample you requested in a few days. Just been busy with a theme music. Tell me more of your set up when you have time - a net TV station is always a progressive idea. Regards, JS

What we're working to do is open the doors for the independent community by starting up a global independent film company that anyone is welcome to join up with and be a part of along with our television network. This cuts through the red tape as we will be getting things set up where can take it from concept to distribution. We'll be airing our own original programs, programs that we collaborate with other independent film makers on as well as individual works. It's one big win win for the independent community.

Hi LB (Loralie) McGill - Liked the Shakespeare piece, nicely done :)
Hi Greg, I'm thinking I did, was there a Britney spears song and a wine tasting program?
Thanks Kirk. Let me know if you want it- you could do a Shakespeare indie night! I know at least one other guy on stage 32 that has a Shakespeare piece :)
Yeah I'd like to run it some time. If you want to have this other person get in touch about their piece that would be great. Thanks :)
