Kind Gentlefolk, I'm thrilled to announce that Richard Becker's and my newest horror script "Handful Of Dust" is a Finalist in the Famous Monsters Of Filmland Festival. I won the PAGE last year with a horror Western, but wow, does it do my inner child good to be associated with Forry Ackerman's fine magazine! Thanks for your kind indulgence. Pic-chas on my Wall.

Congrats!
Yes! Nice job! Are you going to be able to make it to the Fest?
They mentioned 30 writing efforts, but seemed to be saying not all of those are screenplays. Have they posted a breakdown that you've heard of ..?
... and, post your logline here. Cross-promotion!
He was all-our's-Uncle. Wish I'd been here when I could have met him. Another legend gone.
Craig: terrific logline; nice work. If you're out for the Fest, I owe you a drink.
Definitely a drink. Friend me on FBook and I'll PM you my phone number so we can cross.

Did you get any interest with the screenplay that won Page at all? Wow, that's one of the big ones, well done! I was a finalist in this years Beverly Hills Screenplay contest but Speilberg hasn't called yet,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,maybe he's lost my number??!!

I have it optioned, John, thanks for asking, but no way of knowing if anything will actually move forward. Pics and loglines on my "Wall." And congrats yerownself. I find its best to use them as an effective subject-line in an e-mail (if, by "effective" you mean one response in 10-15, lol). For me "PAGE Winner's new script 2x Finalist" has gotten just a smidgen of attention. Playing the long game, like us all. Best to you.

Thanks Rebecca (and Leon, above!), that's kind. We'd all like to advance, just a bit, and just on merit.

Great news. I love the idea of a horror western for you Page Victory. How cool is that?
Thanks, Phillip. It's really only horror in the way that Straw Dogs is ostensibly horror, but yeah. Surprised me. And in Action/Adventure, at that. That's Indiana Jones territory, right there, lol. Thanks for the mention.
Congrats any insight to screenplay writing would be great.
Thanks for the congrats, Deana. Here's a link to an excellent article that I suggested a gentleman I know, write for Facebook posting. He was a "reader" for many years, and was my choice of go-to-author when I had the idea for my newest screenplay. -- He was an excellent man to collaborate with, and ended up being the co-author of the screenplay you're congratulating me on. About the only subject where I recall disagreeing with him was on the importance of Contests, which since becoming a Finalist twice with me, I do believe he has altered his position upon, lol. I'll reread it myself later tonight, and spotlight any highs or lows, but am doing (ridiculous!!) rewrites on this script for a potential client to send out tomorrow night. -- This purports to be "on readers" but is a good list of things to keep in mind when you're writing a product, as, by me, you are not writing a film (unless you're further along than I), but a script to "get past" the reader. Best to you, and thanks again. Love to discuss Richard's points with anyone on this thread in a day or so. Or, for that matter, the levels of ridiculousness rewrites can descend to ... ;) https://www.facebook.com/notes/richard-becker/on-script-reading/10152134...

So. I've had a chance to reread (dear gods that was long) and must say it's still one of the most cogent behind-the-scenes pieces I've read. Lots of info there, in three major parts, and lots about the realities of presenting your script. Two notes as addendum: I obviously thing Contests are important both as a measuring rod and possible subject line ("PAGE Award Winners new script 2x Finalist" is the one I currently get to use), for those of us without Agents. Any small inroads I've made are with my own attempts at contacting, and wins and Finalist standings have helped that. As I stated quickly above, I do not think, at my stage, that one is writing for a screen. One is writing for a Reader. -- That person's job hinges on whether they pass "upwards" scripts that their bosses will like. -- It's good to know how to make that happen, and how not to piss those people off. Best.
Craig, that's great. Sorry, I've been away from the Stage for a few months and had missed this. Big congrats. Maybe come in and pretend to be conversational for a second or two, lol, but, sincerely, that's a big accomplishment. Kudos.
