I'm Tim and my post might be a little sad, but I feel it's important to say. Domestic Violence took my friend Sellis Gonzales last fall, when her ex-boyfriend shot her 6 times - leaving three kids motherless. When I began checking out the statistics, I was flabbergasted by how many people actually die from domestic violence worldwide! In the US, 3 women die EVERY DAY! - And they're dying at the hands of people that, at one point or another, claimed to have loved them. And this is the motivation for a film I'm co-writing/directing called Monster Next Door (http://bit.ly/1ohaUA9) , that tells her story. I know it's been done before, but my goal in co-conspiring to transforming this tragic story into a feature length film (With her Brother Kirt Gonzales and writer Liz Hersey) is to help continue to raise awareness about Domestic Violence and also all other violence against women issues for instance, Human Trafficking and most recently, the girls in Africa. We need to take care of and honour the "fairer" sex and re-program (as well as continue to punish) the men that think using violence against women is EVER an option. I just can't imagine in the future hearing that my daughter is being abused by someone or worse, getting a phone call that she was killed by an ex. I sincerely apologize if this violates any promotional guidelines, but since my friend died, and imagining how her mother, brother and 3 kids are coping, I have a strong desire to advocate in this way in honour of my friend. Take care of each other! Tim

It is a fact that the third leading cause of death for pregnant women is homicide. About 20% of women who die during pregnancy are victims of murder. My since condolences to you on the loss of your friend and thank you from all women for telling her story.

Thank you for your supportive words. Monster Next Door is even more personal cause for the first 15 years of my life, I had a front seat to seeing my own mother being abused. And all the visuals and sounds that have been scarred in my pre-tween memory banks merged with this tragedy to create an intense passion to want to contribute to domestic violence advocacy in this way.
