Spec ads and competions

Anyone here familiar with any of the ad competition sites? Zooppa and Tongal come to mind. Does anyone have any experience with them? Anyone in New Mexico interested in collaborating on some?

I know this kind of competition but i have not experience with them and, sincerely, I try to never apply. In my opinion they are the death of our job. A lot of people working for free and give their idea for free.. only one win, but at the end they have thousand of free ideas that they can use in future. If I have to pay to work (writing and producing the idea) than we are really at the end!!

I've done it. Pitched for major Soap. You do not get feedback. The premise is vague. You may see a watered down version of your idea 6 months later, with out- a- thing... If you check over there you will see that there are about 5 production companies doing 85% of the business. However.... There is always a but. I have seen newbies win. FWIW. I've stopped, personally. Maybe when I get Blender down pat where I have a 'canned' owned character I can whip em up in 3d space without the production costs and headaches of spec spots, without feedback. Can you blame major brands 'pimping' for free? I see it all the time, everywhere. Imagine a place where you could run auditions, productions and only pay if you you get paid. All actors, editors, sound, permits are free...(which they are not) If you notice, those same production companies you will be going against; are the same that you see on Prime time Network. I do not have the resources for putting a production together for nothing and without any feedback to then 'try' catching it on the next one, in hopes of covering the last production. Try it. You can just do the pitch part. Oh and also asking for assets, they are non responsive. You have to wait until the very last day, or not at all to get a logo or asset. Not to pro in my opinion. Not all but some are like that.

This has been my experience, too. I did it just so I had something more for my reel, and enjoyed the challenge, frankly. But if the support is anything to go by, they're really not up to much at all.

I've met a few Tongal execs. They are legit for sure.
