I see a lot of loglines popping up on Lounge so I thought I would post one for a Feature I have written. It's a Comedy entitled Starring Ving Rhames as E.T. Any thoughts are welcome. A struggling British Filmmaker packs his bags and heads to New York to find the actor Ving Rhames and get him to star in his unofficial sequel to E.T.

Blech, another one of those Ving Rhames/ET comedies? Whatever. Hilarious, dude. You've sold at least one ticket. No comments on the logline. I'd read it.

Ha ha ha. Thank you Kerry and for your kind words I will comp you a ticket ;-)

I like it too but think it should somehow convey more conflict. Maybe add " convince an unwilling Ving Rhames..."

Make that two tickets. I cracked up at the logline alone. Great stuff.

Yeah, it's not strictly by the book in that it doesn't mention conflict per se. But I think it's fairly obvious that this will not be an easy task for the hero. I'm perfectly happy to think to myself, "boy, I bet that quixotic quest leads to all sorts of nutty adventures!" It's the same theory as when your logline is "babysitter flees from hockey masked killer." You're not really required to mention the stakes ("or she'll get her head lopped off"). In some stories/genres the conflict and/or stakes are kind of baked into the premise. IMHO. Or, put differently: don't mess with Neville's mad genius! The world needs his kooky vision, completely unfiltered.
Thank you very much guys for all your thoughts and well kind words. I have uploaded the script to Stage32 so if any of you are interested in reading it just go to my page and follow the logline.... Thank you again guys.

Good stuff. Have you got a midpoint section to the logline too? But when xxxx happens he must xxxx or risk xxxxx!!!!

lol. I think it would be hilarious if the whole movie is about convincing him to take the role. In other words, I don't think it's as funny if you have it where they get to production and it's a satire of a film-shoot-from-hell, we've seen that before in Living in Oblivion, also in Ed Wood and others, but if it's all about him trying to snag Ving? Awesome. Maybe he uses a hot girl to try and get him to sign.
Hi Dave well you will be glad to hear I kept it to the thrill of the chase so to speak. The main character Gary really has no luck and sets out on this mission clueless. As a stranger to New York the culture shock is massive and well he finds himself in some very strange situations like dressing as a giant penis and having to dance around and going hand to hand combat with a psychotic armadillo! Just in a days work for a struggling filmmaker I guess :) The script is on my page if you would like to read it if you have some time spare. Thank you for your comments.
