Virgil Wayne

Virgil Wayne is an American film director, cinematographer, editor, writer, producer and military officer. Originally from Chicago, he joined the U.S. Army, serving in Daegu, South Korea and Fort Carson, Colorado, first with the U.S. Army Signal Corps, then U.S. Army Special Operations Command. He was later commissioned into the U.S. Air Force as a Space and Missiles Operations Officer specializing in the Global Positioning System satellite constellation and Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles. He transferred to the Air Force's Public Affairs branch, serving at the headquarters of Air Force Space Command, followed by assignments in Belgium with NATO, then the U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command.

He received an honorable discharge from the military in 2006 and later accepted a civilian assignment with NATO in Kabul, Afghanistan, as its Chief of Media Assessments, at the headquarters of the International Security Assistance Force. After leaving NATO for the second time he stayed in Afghanistan and founded the country's first business-oriented magazine and a boutique public relations agency specialising in strategic communications in crisis and war-torn environments. Some of his clients included the U.S. Army, the U.S. Agency for International Development, the U.K. Department for International Development and various commercial and non-governmental organisations.

Several years later he served as the Chief of Corporate Communications for an Indonesian-owned international palm oil conglomerate based in Liberia, West Africa. He later served as a Senior Communications Officer for the United Nations Regional Service Centre based in Entebbe, Uganda.

Known primarily for short documentary, commercial and corporate films, since 2018 his films have covered a broad range of narrative, action, comedic and experimental subject matter.
