Sandra Fox-Sohner: Writer and Biotech Consultant
BIO: Sandra has worked in several professions that help open doors for women seeking a career in math and science. She has degrees in German Literature, Biology and Math, and Business. fox-sohner@comcast.net
Girls in my math classes thought math was difficult for them because they are girls. I wrote the biopic MATHEMATICAL MERMAID to encourage all girls to believe in themselves.
I help organize math camps and conferences for girls. Many tell me they are often the only girl in an advanced science or math class at school. I wrote this screenplay to let them know they are not alone in their love of science and math.
Professional women with degrees in science and math often experience gender discrimination at work, including me. I wrote this drama to honor the struggle and contribution of each generation of women.
I also wrote this screenplay to celebrate the men who make decisions based on merit not gender. These heroes often put their careers at risk to ensure justice and fairness prevail.
The film shows the historical oppression that occurred in the 1800s, how hard both women and men had to fight for their rights to pursue their dreams, and how their courage has allowed the freedoms we have today.
