Joel Boyd is a comedy writer, actor, and director his audience has described as “visceral, witty, and real”. Originally from Milwaukee, WI he broke through the scene as a Just For Laughs New Face of Comedy in Montreal in 2018.
He has been on the rise as a writer for such hit shows as DROP THE MIC (TBS), HISTORY OF SWEAR WORDS (Netflix), EARTH TO NED (Disney+) and ARSENIO! LIVE FROM NETFLIX IS A JOKE FEST (Netflix). Gracing the small screen with guest star appearances on THE CHI (SHOWTIME), HOT DATE (PopTV/Netflix), and INSIDE JOKES (Amazon).
Joel is most notably known for his award-winning dark comedy mental health web series, SAD-ASS BLACK FOLK, of which he is the co-creator, star & co-director, as well as his award-winning dark comedy short HIGH POWER. You can also see him in the Sopranos prequel film, THE MANY SAINTS OF NEWARK.
