About Al

I’m a native New Yorker who started my career as an illustrator and designer. He attended SUNY Purchase but eventually transferred to The School of Visual Arts, At SVA I was mentored by legendary silver age comic book artist and executive vice publisher for DC Comics, Joe Orlando. After I completed my studies, Def Jam Recordings hired me to work on several projects and their first job was designing their website, which went on to win the AOL award for "Best Website" of the year for three consecutive years. During this time, I illustrated, wrote, and published a successful four-part indie comic series titled "Oak."

This path allowed me into the licensing industry where I worked on brands and intellectual properties for Marvel Comics, Disney, and Warner Bros. These projects involved my artistic contributions on both sides as a licensor and licensee for over twenty years. Eventually, I decided to branch off and reconnect with my roots to create original concepts as a content creator.

In 2014, my brother, Javi Diaz and I, corralled our ideas and expertise for the next business venture, El Capitán Ink. The studio is an art and design lab and a creative incubator for original properties and media content. One of the studio's projects was illustrating storyboards for the 2016 film, "Cheerleader," directed by Irving Franco.

ECI's first IP release, "Mr. Box & Boogy's Mass Media Review," includes puppetry and 2D animation and was released in 2018 on YouTube. I recently completed the feature film script based on the characters from the award-winning TV/Web series.
