The star of an elite Midwest dance conservatory battles an aggressive form of cancer in pursuit of her lifelong dream to perform on Broadway.
SYNOPSIS:
“The Fault in our Stars” meets “Step Up” in the story of ECCO, a bi-racial dance prodigy with one dream: becoming a Broadway dance star like her late parents. She enters her final year at the elite Midwest Dance Conservatory, poised to battle long-time rival AVA for senior class supremacy. But after collapsing during a performance, Ecco learns she has a rare form of bone cancer in her knee. Buoyed by an iron will, acerbic wit, the love of her pot-smoking, sax-playing grandmother LANA, and, surprisingly, Ava’s encouragement, Ecco endures knee replacement surgery, two rounds of chemo, and a brutal period of physical rehabilitation. After graduation, Ava leaves for New York to chase her Broadway dream, while Ecco settles into her life as an instructor at a local dance studio. Until Ava calls, urging Ecco to come to New York for open auditions with a famed Tony-nominated choreographer. Ecco must now decide if she has what it takes for a shot at her lifelong dream.
