About Lily

Lily Selthofner is a New York City based artist who specializes in dance, film, and visual arts. They are in their fourth year at Columbia University, studying Anthropology and Dance. Driven by the healing power of creative expression, they use their organizational and leadership skills to guide their academic, artistic, and professional pursuits.

Lily is an experienced director, choreographer, dancer, editor, and visual artist. She deeply values community-fostering artistic practices, and has initiated a multitude of collaborative and multidisciplinary artistic projects-- her creative and intuitive skills shine in her extensive Screendance portfolio. Lily founded Essence, an improvisational artistic research workshop, to cultivate immersive and empowering interdisciplinary art. On campus, Lily contributes to the artistic and intellectual community as a member of the Philolexian Society, an absurdist debate club. She has been elected to serve as a 2023-24 Herald for the club, and as a 2023-24 Literary Czar of Surgam, the literary magazine of the Philolexian Society.

Lily's pursuits are guided by their studies of Anthropology, prioritizing meaningful global engagement. Lily currently works with Ringle, tutoring advanced level English students online, and as a tutor of 4K-12 students with Ringle Teens. Lily was also selected to attend the Columbia Summer in Venice program in 2023. They are also a writer, sharing poetry in both English and Italian. As a dancer, Lily was also selected to attend the Barnard Dance in Paris program in Summer 2022. They have also attended summer intensives at Milwaukee Ballet and Boston Ballet.

Lily is deeply involved in her home community of Green Lake, Wisconsin. She deeply engages with the local creative and entrepreneurial landscape, working at her family’s annual From the Land Festival and with Heritage Hemp Farm, a family business established in 2018. She has also worked to foster a riveting artistic economy in surrounding areas as a longstanding contributing artist at The Heist, and as an art gallery manager and dancer at Levee Contemporary Art Gallery.
