About Dave

I've been a member of AFTRA, SAG and SAG-AFTRA since the 80s. Union activism has been in my blood since day one. I've served as a National Vice President of AFTRA, Miami AFTRA Local President, AFTRA National Board member, SAG National Board member, and SAG-AFTRA National Board member. In October of 2015 I was one of the recipients of the "George Heller Memorial Award" for service to SAG-AFTRA above and beyond; the highest honor awarded by the union! I was so humbled to be standing shoulder-to-shoulder with my SAG-AFTRA heroes including our dear departed President, Ken Howard.
In June of 2012 I attended The New York Festival's International Radio Program Awards for The World's Best Radio Programs honors radio content in all lengths and formats and across all platforms from radio stations, networks and independent producers from around the globe. I picked up the Silver for Best Radio Drama Special...in the world! It was awarded for a radio drama I wrote, directed, produced and starred in - "Frankenstein's Demon". Lightning struck twice! In 2016 my original story, "Blood Moon Over Miami" took home the Bronze for Best Radio Drama Special in the world! I'm especially proud of this production; it was conceived from researching some true but twisted South Florida events and presented as a continuation of the "Dracula" saga. Both "Frankenstein's Demon" and "Blood Moon Over Miami" can be heard by clicking on my "Links".
Currently I'm working on a thrilling project called "Kisses For Ellen". A few years ago I was videotaping a friend who was running for a local SAG-AFTRA office. I noticed a stack of letters sitting on her kitchen table; there must have been 400 of them. I asked her what they were, and she told me they were letters written to and from her Uncle "Hymie" and family during World War 2. Ellen was just a baby, and Uncle Hymie carried her picture with him through Marine Basic Training on Parris Island to...the bloody beaches of Iwo Jima. The letters were absolutely breathtaking from an historical POV, but also in their depth of emotion, humor, and horror. I pored over them for hours with tears falling from my eyes. I've designs on making "Kisses for Ellen (KFE)" a podcast, but I can certainly see it as a mini-series as well. I produced and narrated a presentation for the "Yiddishkayt Initiative" which can be viewed in my "Links". Most recently, "KFE" was awarded a Grant from the Broward County Cultural Division. An audience of almost 70 were treated to a multimedia presentation and responded with a standing ovation. I'm certain that this project has big legs!
