Hello
My name is Sarah Lipton. I live in London, England at present but I want to immigrate to Canada as there aren't enough opportunities for creative people in England. Canada wants more immigrants.
I'm an actress, author, singer and songwriter. My experience is as a stage actress because England underfunds its film industry. I've done classical acting, primarily in Shakespeare's plays, such as 'King Lear.' Also, I was cast in 'Dr Faustus' and 'Death Of A Salesman.' I have done some voice work too, such as for audiobooks and commercials.
I have a LLCM (Licentiate from The London College Of Music) in Acting Performance. Also, I attended numerous classes at The City Lit Adult Education Institute in London for Acting and Singing. I saw Doreen Fisher, The Head Of Trinity College, London, privately too.
I have numerous awards from Performing Arts Festivals in England for Singing, Speech and Drama. I obtained The Shakespeare Cup from The Ealing Festival and The Diamond Jubilee and Sonnet Trophies from The Beckenham Festival. I was awarded a Certificate of Merit for Light Opera from The Stratford and East London Music Festival. Also, I was awarded a Certificate of Merit for Vocal Recital from The Coulsdon and Purley Festival.
In December 2020, I qualified for The International Final of 'Talent America.' The competition was held remotely because of the pandemic. I came second in The Dramatic Monologue Category for adults: I performed an extract from 'King Lear,' playing Goneril. I came first in The Performance Poetry Category for adults. I performed my poem, 'Mad Weather.'
I have written three volumes of short stories, three volumes of poetry, a play, a children's book, short film scripts and song lyrics. Three of my short stories were broadcast on the radio. A volume of my short stories, ' A Journey Into Fear And Fantasy,' was published in March 2017 by 'Kite and Key Publishing.' Unfortunately, the publishing company no longer exists. I would like the stories from this collection adapted for television or film. They are supernatural and horror tales, similar in type to 'The Twilight Zone' stories.
My poetry has been published in numerous anthologies. I received a 'Poetry Society,' England award for some of my poetry. My poem, 'Stagnation,' was shortlisted in 'The National Anthology Poetry Competition' in 2005. My poem, 'Wishful Thinking,' was published by the charity, 'Poems In The Waiting Room,' in one of its pamphlets which are distributed to hundreds of doctors' surgeries in England. Research revealed that the reading of joyous poetry improves people's mental health. For me, one of the pleasures of being a creative person is if my work improves people's wellbeing. A volume of my poetry, 'The First Collection,' was published by 'Jacaranda Books' in October 2020.
In 2016, I was awarded a Commended Certificate from 'The United Kingdom Songwriting Competition' for my song, 'I Wish.' In November 2022, I entered my song, 'Flame Of Hope,' in 'The Great American Song Contest.' I will be notified of the results in March 2023. Presently, I would appreciate if anyone knows of grants for non- American songwriters who live outside The United States. I would like to get some of my songs produced so I can send them to a music publisher or register them with a music library.
I have just made revisions to my stage play, 'Revenge,' which I have entered for 'The Papatango New Writing Prize.'
I am completing writing my first novel, '14 Bensham Grove,' which is set in London, England, in the 1970s. It focuses on the friendship between Jennifer and Tracy who inhabit a dilapidated house. Also, the novel focuses on the lives of the other tenants who inhabit the same house. There is abuse behind closed doors, domestic violence, alcoholism, mental illness and witchcraft, however the novel contains element of humour too and really evokes some major events of the 1970s. When I finish writing the novel, I'll submit it to Literary Agents and I don't mind if it's eventually adapted for film.
Also, I would appreciate if any one knows of organisations that need an actress with a neutral, English accent; this is my voice type. I would like to do voice work remotely where a home studio isn't required as I don't have this. I want to raise the funds to meet people, in person, in Los Angeles in the summer of 2023 because there really aren't enough opportunities for me in England, especially regarding acting for television and film.
