What should I do?
I’ve always enjoyed writing but I took a different career path into CRM marketing technology.
Now by age forty I’ve written my first screenplay only because I had this idea and not because I’m trying to change careers.
A friend whose career is adjacent to filmmaking says my screenplay is exceptionally good (he was surprised it was my first) and to get involved with WGA. But I have zero credits or work that would make me eligible.
Would it be a waste to have it storyboarded? Are those screenplay contests a waste? Do I just mail this to Ben Affleck and Matt Damon I mean what do I do with this thing?
I wrote this initially in 2020 as a 3,300-word short story and had it published in 2021. Someone told me I should turn it into a screenplay, so I researched the format and wrote a first draft that came in at 65 pages. Then in 2023 I got coverage which led me to a second draft that came in at 79 pages. That's when my friend read it and gave me suggestions so this is my third draft at 88 pages.
You can read it on The Black List.
