Maria Cabral Jackson

I’m originally from Lisbon, with a medical degree from the University of St Andrews. I've travelled the world as a crew ship doctor with P&O and Princess Cruises and then worked in the UK and New Zealand in general practice and emergency care.

This lived experience translates into my writing which I’ve been cultivating for a few years. I’m dedicated to my career as a writer and did a Masters in Creative Writing (Merit) from the University of Manchester, during which I wrote my historical novel Louis & Marguerite which made it into the final of the Pulp Idol Novel writing competition in 2018, part of Liverpool Writing on the Wall fest. The first chapter of the novel was published in the Firsts 2019 anthology.

During the pandemic, I did a Screenwriting Course. I loved every minute of it, combining my passion for writing with my love of movies. I've since written two novels, countless short stories and just submitted my sci-fi/portal fantasy feature script, adapted from my novella 59 Minutes.
