Looking to meet other creatives, share stories, and enjoy the process of finding joy in a very tough business!
I was born and raised in a small town in Connecticut but moved around a lot when I was 18. Mental illness runs in my family and I myself suffer from mental health issues. I am also a proud member of the LGBTQ+ Community. Therefore, most of my stories focus on themes related to mental health and LGBTQ+ topics.
The script I am currently focusing on, "Not About Me" is relatively autobiographical and contains themes talked about above. I feel that these themes have come a long way but are still important topics that need to have stories told about them. I hope that with this Pilot, I can help people who suffer from mental illness and who are struggling with their identity.
My mom committed suicide when I was 25 so this story is in many ways a homage to her and her legacy. She is and was the inspiration behind everything I am and everything I do. Writing this story was so cathartic and I can't wait to share it with the world, in one way or another.
For anyone reading this, I hope you are well and you are finding your voice through your own storytelling. I feel like many people don't understand why we do what we do, but we know what we are doing is important and necessary to help change the world for the better. My mom used to say: "Never forget how lucky you are to have a passion, because so few people do". Until the day I die, I will remember that.
I think, at the end of the day, we should all simply focus on being kind to others. Whether you win an Emmy or pass away without your work ever produced, the people you meet along the way should be good, kind, loving people. I have met many people in the industry who seem passionate and kind but in the end, when it comes to money or who potentially can gain the higher status, that kindness going out the window. I don't think art can thrive without safety. We are all such talented but sensitive human beings - and that shines through in our art. Be kind. That's it. I believe all the "good stuff" to come will be influenced by that motto.
Much love,
