I earned a bachelor's degree in music from Northern Illinois University and a masters degree in jazz studies from DePaul University. I have been performing on a weekly basis as a jazz pianist in the Chicago area since the early 1990s. I have performed with many of today's jazz luminaries, including Wynton Marsalis, Steve Rodby, Frank Catalano, Richie Cole, and more.
Composition is an important part of my daily practice. Though the music I write would not be considered jazz, composing helps me to see more options for improvising fresh ideas. In the process, I've accumulated a large amount of high quality original music that no one has ever heard. Recently, I began organizing my compositions by how each piece evokes specific emotions from Robert Plutchik's Wheel of Emotions.
I also own the School of Rock Andersonville, and I play guitar and occasionally like to rock out!
