I'm a writer, teacher, scholar, and daughter of Korean immigrant parents to Canada. I hold a Stanford University PhD and MA and have enjoyed a professional career that has immersed me in literature and film, across all media and genres, that I've studied closely, loved and admired, yet primarily from the outside in. As a screenwriter and poet, new(ish) to both crafts, I have been turning that the other way around (or somewhat "inside out").
I am drawn to and I create stories that feature people learning to recognize and hone their individual and combined talents and "soft powers" to overcome injustice and hardship. My main genres are comedy-satire, mystery, thriller, and drama. I have studied and taught literary adaptation for the screen extensively and would be especially interested in opportunities to work in this area.
I have trained in the prestigious Norman Jewison Feature Film Program, as a screenwriter-resident, at the Canadian Film Centre; and received recognition for my work including the Best Screenplay Award at the 2023 LA Femme International Film Festival for my comedy-satire feature script entitled MADAM WOW, and grants from Telefilm Canada's Writer's First, the Canada Arts Council, and the Ontario Council for the Arts. I was also a finalist for the 2024 San Francisco Independent Film Festival Screenplay Award, and a semi-finalist in the 2024 Catalyst Studios/Stage 32 Empowering Women Screenplay Competition (for MADAM WOW); and I placed as one of three finalists for the Nantucket Film Festival's Showtime Tony Cox Screenplay Award (for a political thriller entitled HALF-LIFE).
