Let the mask be the teacher.
So begins my movement into screenplay production.
My initial influences are theatrical vaudeville, physical theater, and circus acts and therefor performers on film with like roots. But on film I value most performers who disappear into a role, more actor than personality. I appreciate performances with clear gestural language.
Similarly, I am very entertained by the short fiction of Roald Dhal and P.G. Wodehouse but love to get into 19th century literature; Zola, Tolstoy, Balzac, whom I have not read enough.
Some recent films that have a special place in my heart are : The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty, Joker, and Arrival. A less recent one is The Truman Show.
