About Filipe

Filipe Henriques was born in Guinea-Bissau, in 1979. At the age of 18, he was forced to leave his native country, due to the armed conflict that occurred in 1998, taking refuge in Portugal. Director and screenwriter, he studied Cinema, Video and Multimedia Communication at Universidade Lusófona, in Lisbon, Portugal. He worked at Warner Bros and Plural Entertainment (the largest Portuguese production company), as a sound designer, having worked on the sound of several soap operas, such as MEU AMOR (MY LOVE), the first Portuguese work distinguished with an International EMMY. With 18 years of experience in Cinema and Television, he was the first black person to direct fiction for Portuguese Television with the film O RAPAZ DO TAMBOR - adaptation of the short story by Fernando Namora (2020). He has several award-winning short films in his curriculum, the feature film O ESPINHO DA ROSA, the first black film made in Portugal, nominated for more than 35 international film festivals | FESPACO (BF), PAFF (USA), (Fantasporto (PT )|; won 11 international awards, including Best Film and Best Director, distributed by BAYVIEW ENTERTAINMENT, LLC (USA), KWELI TV (USA); O NADADOR - adaptation of the work by Lídia Jorge, considered one of the greatest portuguese writers of all time (2023);
