PONDER WONDER: THRONE WARS

PONDER WONDER: THRONE WARS
By Charles Okika

GENRE: Sci-fi, Fantasy
LOGLINE:

A black mutant flying princess and a band of monster-killing humans must form an unlikely alliance to thwart the plans of an old enemy amassing new powers and weaponized creatures meant to conquer their peaceful kingdoms.

SYNOPSIS:

One day, outside the fortified Powonda kingdom of winged Tandayana mutants, a withered humanoid is attacked by hideous Ikeochichis: Piggawks, Powryetawks, Spectrawls, Grindynawmes and Faunkobawlds. They are bestial Frankensteins born of the dark errors: Mehenjoor, Ibenku and Igweigbawku, mutations and allergies caused by actions of a former king. Although it appears the ikeochichis bore a grudge, the humanoid defeats them, demonstrating powers to manipulate orohnites and a desire to reveal itself. Years later, a tandayana Princess Amara, reveals her knack for danger to her guardian Dimpieweoma, also expressing disappointment at being overprotected from risk-taking, a trait needed to tackle the dark errors problem. Subsequently, her mother Queen Ngozianna, reveals the impact of the great war in which tandayanas and the bordering human kingdom Arwkahmanda, fought together as well as against each other to defeat evil tandayana King Ajorom.

Despite the peace earned for both tandayanas and humans, the dark errors still plagued them, necessitating pledges to the wonder throne. The throne being a non-biological life form could synthesize an antigen the Ogwuife, capable of managing some of the dark errors' effects. Evil plans are activated when a large, winged Jackal, Nkythar steals the kwutemusa from Arwkahmanda. This was another non-biological life form capable of replication. The stone’s keepers, a group of military-skilled shepherds and hunters called the husbandmen, chase after the animal. Led by black tough man Hammalu, including Wiggulu of Caribbean descent, Karamo a Greek African, Xeemanda a Tuareg Ethiopian, Vyraoma a Jamaican lady and Li a female Chinese Indian, they fail to retrieve the kwutemusa from the Jackal. Later, Zikifema, the tandayana chancellor, informs King Igwedikana that a dark mutagen-neutralizing lion, the Artuloo, had been acquired for pledge modifications. This was necessary to cease pollution of the forest with the mehenjoor which accumulated as toxins and mutagens in tandayanas as a side effect of the dark errors. However, since the Artuloo auto-ignites and dies on absorbing the mehenjoor, the kingdom would need the kwutemusa from Arwkahmanda to make it a sustainable option by replicating it regularly. Frustrated, King Igwedikana promises half the kingdom to anyone that could end the dark errors, instructing Zikifema to go for the kwutemusa.

When Zikiifema discovers that the kwutemusa he intends to lend has been stolen, he races to Arwkahmanda with Amara and Dimpieweoma hoping to intervene. On their way, they’re attacked by cloaked assassins. Zikifema protects the ladies with his energy manipulation skills. Moments later, the husbandmen and the fleeing jackal get caught up in the clash between Zikifema and the cloaked assassin. Zikifema is later wounded and Hammalu tries to help him but he succumbs to his wounds. However, before he dies, he transfers his wings to Hammalu’s body, encouraging him to embrace a new hero’s destiny. Reluctantly, Hammalu acquires Zikifema’s starbeing Ifeoku, an antimatter and energy creature, capable of endless wonders.

After some misunderstanding with Hammalu’s new form, the husbandmen clash with rainbow-harnessing Spectrawls, then Bugganychawns who can fuse into a bigger Brawltrawl. Later, Hammalu begins a journey to Powonda to pledge to the throne. Afterwards, Nkythar brings the kwutemusa to the withered humanoid who reveals himself to be Ajorom, killing the jackal, and replicating it with the stone. Amara, drawing strength from her grief, overcomes the temptation of the dreaded Mbalawohr to acquire her own starbeing, Kpando. She kills several Ikeochichis along her path to finding Zikifema, a journey which leads her to sneak into Arwkahmanda. Later, in a surprise turn of events, Ajorom sends his son Ogbutotomyr to attack Arwkahmanda with an ikeochichi army, for their vacant throne. Unfortunately, his army is routed by a coalition of the husbandmen, Arwkahmandan infantry and Princess Amara. The kwutemusa is finally retrieved from a dying Ogbutotomyr but Amara warns the humans that it was just the beginning of what was to come from Ajorom. Later, Hammalu is confronted by upgraded bugganychawns for Ifeoku, prompting him to challenge them to a fight for it.
