My name is Gregory Cox. I am a writer and documentary film maker.
I am a life-long learner. After military service and college I worked as a technical writer for over 10 years. Now my focus is on improving story development for my screenplay work. When I'm writing I'm in my happy place. I write scripts for documentary videos that I create which fulfills my passion for film making.
I was born in Annapolis, Maryland, at the Naval Academy. As a young man I ran away from home and hitch hiked across the United States. In the process I learned what it was like to be homeless. I slept in public restrooms to stay warm, or under a bridge out of the rain. The diverse assortment of characters I met on this journey offered fodder for my writing. This unique experience is something I liken to a Huck Finn trip down the Mississippi, but my river was the Interstate Highway. Have you ever tried to jump on a moving train?
I graduated North Texas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree. I minored in film and this is where I my love for film making took root. All my student films won awards and were selected for the student film festival. I became very creative with special effects using a super-8 camera I got in a garage sale... now that was a challenge.
My accomplishments include writing the screenplay "CODENAME KRAKEN" that received Double-Recommend from Stage-32 coverage service, and producing short documentary videos that have 500 subscribers and counting. That requires me to wear all the hats; cinematographer, writer, producer, director, film editor.
My hobby of flying my drone comes in handy for my documentaries. Very often the National Historic Landmarks are simply too massive to capture from the ground. If I cannot get inside the structures I fly over it! As a life-long learner I have consumed hundreds of lectures from The Great Courses. I channel my creativity into writing, creating documentary videos, and playing the banjo.
Gregory Cox's goal is to write Thriller features for a global audience. I chose the Thriller genre because my life has been a thriller. Like Eudora Welty said, "write about what you don't know about what you know."
Unique traits: I can play chess blindfolded... and win.
