My name is Dominick Jones, but I'm known to the industry as Dom Jones. Born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, just 20 minutes south of Hollywood, my fascination with film began at a young age.
Growing up in a neighborhood surrounded by gangs and drugs, my mother would often rent movies from the local video store to keep me indoors and safe. This escape into the world of film ignited a passion that would drive me to pursue a career in the industry.
In 2008, I completed a production assistant program designed to promote diversity in film. This opportunity led to work on national commercials, music videos, feature films, shorts, and reality TV shows.
After gaining valuable experience as a production assistant, I transitioned into assistant directing. Working alongside renowned directors like Alfonso Cuarón, Malcolm Lee, Chris Robinson, Jesse Terrero, Colin Tilley, and Dave Myers, I honed my directing skills.
A pivotal moment came in 2015 when I shadowed Alfonso Cuarón for four days, mimicking each frame with a DSLR camera for continuity. This experience solidified my goal of becoming a director.
With newfound determination, I invested in an HD camera and began directing small-budget music videos. A small breakthrough came when I directed a video featuring Nipsey Hussle, followed by "That's Bae" for Ceeradi, who later signed with Roc Nation.
Establishing relationships with industry professionals, I began submitting treatments for prominent artists like Lizzo, B.J. The Chicago Kid, and Kehlani.
In 2021, I wrote and directed my debut short film, screened at Raleigh Studios Hollywood to over 150 industry peers, family, and friends.
My ultimate dream is to craft horror and psychological thrillers that leave audiences shaken for years to come.
