Charlotte Verminck (b. 1999) is a visionary Flemish filmmaker and the pioneering force behind Above The Nerve Productions. From a young age, Verminck displayed an extraordinary talent for cinematic storytelling, creating intricate film montages featuring her classmates at just 10 years old. By 17, she had already established herself as a video artist and creative director for the acclaimed Belgian artist Ozark Henry, with whom she co-founded the avant-garde arthouse, SOH.
Her artistic journey took a bold turn when she ventured alone to the United States, where she immersed herself in the heart of Hollywood. During her time in Los Angeles, Verminck interned at the prestigious production company Little Minx, led by Rhea Scott, daughter-in-law of the legendary Ridley Scott, the visionary behind iconic films such as Gladiator, Napoleon, and Alien. This invaluable experience sharpened her cinematic skills, fueling her passion for the art of storytelling.
Upon her return to Belgium, Charlotte embarked on an ambitious path to hone her craft further. She participated in international masterclasses and delved deep into screenplay analysis, developing a profound understanding of narrative structure. Her dedication and drive led her to work as an assistant on a number of both national and international film productions.
In 2022, Charlotte captivated audiences with “Pathless”, a poetic video poem she both conceived and created independently. The evocative film earned widespread acclaim, clinching the “Best Poetry Film” award and securing coveted spots at prestigious events like the Poetry Film Festival in Los Angeles.
Now, Charlotte is set to elevate her artistry further with her highly anticipated directorial film debut, “Mind of Thoughts”, a compelling short film, shot across three countries, that promises to push creative boundaries and solidify her reputation as a bold, innovative filmmaker.
Charlotte’s artistic vision is defined by a distinctive aesthetic that explores the complexities of human psychology, infused with poetic undertones. Her films strike a compelling balance between raw naturalism and bold, flamboyant expression, forging a signature style that is both deeply evocative and unmistakably her own. Through the lens of a female gaze, Charlotte crafts narratives that resonate profoundly, offering audiences a perspective that is as intimate as it is universal.
