In high school I saw the same movies week after endless week as an usher at a single-screen movie theater in the small town of Springfield, Ohio. I learned every nuance of camera angles, the use of light and shadows, and, more importantly, the elements of story structure itself—as if by osmosis.
Another insight became crystal clear as well: even the best actor cannot save desperately bad dialogue. (I’m looking at you, “The Swarm”.) As such, I’m committed to telling stories which connect with audiences and entertain them. And the lines will do no harm to the career of any actor.
