Nichole Mell's Reel

PlanetariumInUse

This was a semester long collaboration that was premiered in the UW-Milwaukee Student Film Festival. My part in the film included location scouting, script, and casting during the pre-production stages. Acting, directing, camera, lighting, cinematography were some of my production roles. Editing film, transferring to video, and sound were other tasks in finalizing. Other important contributions included the distribution and creating the fliers. I was one of a few students who put serious...

Collaborative Bird Video

Here is another piece that was collaborative for a UW-Milwaukee film course.

ArtIsImpossible

This was a quickly composed collaborative film.

Pieces

This was an experimentation project for one of my digital classes at UW-Milwaukee

Quick Feet

In this project, our assignment was to create a conceptual video artwork that plays with generativity or temporality in a conceptually interesting way. I chose to use both in the piece presented. By using archives of dance throughout the years, I temporally explored dance and its form. I was able to compare the dance techniques and their original origin. Generatively, I placed these images together throughout time to express their similarities to other forms of dance. Through this technique,...

PassUpDown

Presented here is generative work. I had many different ideas for this project, but decided this was the best form. With the hours I spent searching through these archives, I took images of myself as a child being passed, put down, or picked up. Over and over again, I cut down the images into quick generative clips. I also found it interesting to use a generative sound from the archives that would match the images rhythmically

NatureVSindustry

In this work, each student was asked to shoot several videos of different landscapes. From here on, we passed all of our images to one other student and they created a collaborative video out of it. In this video, I took one student’s videos and collaborated them in an interesting way. I used After Effects for the visual aspect and Digital Performer for the sound. I enjoyed playing around with the different effects that After Effects had to offer. As for the sound created in Digital...

Godfather

The class that I made this video for was my Directing class. In the class, we were given different positions during each shoot. A student would pick a scene that was scripted at three pages in length and direct. They would be assigned a DP, a camera assistant, sound mixer, boom, continuity, and electrician. The rest of the class would be the talent, or actors for the scene. Every week, a student would play a different role. As one of the first students to be director, I chose a scene from...
