Juan Hernández has built a career as a free-lance cinematographer since 1996. He has photographed ten feature films, more than fifty short films, eighty commercials, around twenty music videos and a television series , both in Spain and Latin America. He has shot in practically all available formats: 35mm, Anamorphic 35mm, Super 35mm, 16mm, Super 16mm, Super 8mm, High Definition Cine Alta, HDV, DSLR and Red Digital Cinema.
Born in southern Spain, he studies Geological Sciences at Granada’s University of Sciences and then studies cinematography at TAI’s academy in Madrid. Soon after, he works as director of photography in Canal + and Spanish public television (RTVE). In 2000, he starts working as a free-lance cinematographer in film and advertising productions.
Some of his most distinguished works are Ocho Citas (2007, directed by Peris Romano and Ruy Sorogoyen), El espejo (2008, directed by Alex Sampayo), Cesado (2011, directed by Daniela Schneider), Siete Años de Matrimonio (2012, directed by Joel Núñez) and the TV series Drenaje Profundo (2010, produced by TV Azteca and MGM Latin America).
He has also worked as photographer for UNICEF in Africa.
He lives in Mexico since 2008, working both in Europe and Mexico
In 2011, he founds his own production company “Uno en lo Uno Films” in order to concentrate on the production of more personal film projects.
