Shawnassey Howell Brooks is an entertainment attorney who represents a variety of clients, including screenwriters, film and television production companies, multi-million dollar independent record labels, multi-platinum recording artists, Grammy award winning recording studios and songwriters, independent book publishers, authors, magazines, advertising agencies, and more. She has assisted in all aspects of many projects, including independent films, book launches, major concerts, and music videos from concept, budgeting, funding, and implementation to subsequent commercial release, retail distribution and backend accounting.
She co-authored “Entertainment Law for the General Practitioner," published by American Bar Assoc. Publishing. Her latest book, tentatively entitled "Basics of Global Film Incentives for Entertainment Lawyers," to be published by American Bar Assoc. Publishing, is due out in early 2014. She served as panelist for Oxford Film Festival (2012-“Financing Your Independent Film”), Crossroads Film Festival (2008-“Legal and Business Issues for Independent Filmmakers”), Mississippi Film Summit (2011-“Developing and Funding Your Film”), and Women’s Business Center (2012-“Art as Business”) and frequently teaches seminars on entertainment law, intellectual property and other subjects. She also teaches courses in Entertainment Law and Counseling and Negotiations at Mississippi College School of Law.
