Darren trained at Rose Bruford College, graduating in 1995 with a degree in writing. He has written for film, television, radio and theatre; has worked as a writer, director and co-director/devisor for companies such as the National Youth Theatre, The Royal Albert Hall, Greenwich and Lewisham Young People’s Theatre, The London Bubble and the Half Moon. He has written and directed four short films, is a current writer on Doctors and EastEnders for the BBC and has two feature films in development. Darren has been short listed for the Carl Forman Award at BAFTA, is a selected short film writer for TAPS (Television Arts Performance Showcase) and was a finalists in the BBC Talent Television Drama initiative in 2002. His Radio play Vital Statistics was part of BBC Radio Drama/Hampstead Theatre’s ‘Stages of Sound’ 2006 and he was a writer on the radio soap Silver Street. As an actor has worked on films, including When Did You Last See You Father (2008) and The Be All and End All (2010) and has also worked in television (including Little Howard’s Big Idea currently being shown). He is the Artistic Director of Spanner in the Works, who run drama and media based workshops in schools, hospitals and museums. Currently they are running a ‘Continuing TV Drama Series project’ at The Maudsley Hospital. He is also Company Director of Tualen Pictures. As a freelance drama trainer and facilitator Darren has worked with various companies and councils. He has devised projects with Young People for the Millennium Dome and Her Majesty the Queen and run two opera projects with the Royal Albert Hall. In 2010 he visited India, funded by the British Council, to run writing workshops in colleges in Mumbai and Ahmadabad on writing Science-Fiction films. He currently runs a film production project for young people in Bexley called Pointless Taxi and is a visiting lecturer at Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama and The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.
