About Cyril

ABOUT THE WRITER

Cyril Augustin, Jr., is a disabled, forty-three year-old screenwriter from New Orleans, Louisiana. Cyril has been a screenwriter for over 19 years and has written several film scripts, Shorts and TV scripts in that time.

Cyril's first break into the film industry came in 2001, after struggling for ten years. Cyril was introduced to writer/director/actor Moon Jones by an acquaintance, while Mr. Jones was in New Orleans filming “15 to Life”. Cyril and Mr. Jones clicked right away, so Mr. Jones invited Cyril to the film set. To finally get an opportunity to be on an actual film set was a dream come true and a confidence booster. While on the film set, Cyril submitted a few writing samples to Mr. Jones, which impressed him. Mr. Jones introduced Cyril to one of his executive producers-- who just happened to be a high school classmate of Cyril’s. The executive producer asked for more writing and a script. After filming, Cyril submitted his comedy script entitled, “Treasure in The Hood”.

A following week, Mr. Augustin submitted a screenplay, titled “Loyalty” to Hollywood’s Next Success Screenplay Competition. The screenplay was a quarter-finalist in the competition. A few months later, Mr. Augustin’s script “Treasure in The Hood” went into production in the same neighborhood in New Orleans, Louisiana where Cyril was raised. Treasure in The Hood later won The Audience Choice Award at the 1st Annual Atlanta Film Festival on April 15, 2005. The film was released by Warner Bros. home video a year later.

In 2006, Mr. Augustin’s writing caught the attention of Most Wanted Films CEO Danny Garcia, one half of the No Limit records rap group Kane and Abel. Mr. Augustin was hired by the Mr. Garcia to write the film, “Jeremy’s Family Reunion”. The film was a straight to DVD released by Maverick Entertainment but the experience was golden. Mr. Augustin also teamed up with a few local, New Orleans’ producers from the public access TV show, “Time Code Nola” to work on several film shorts. Mr. Augustin wrote and had an opportunity to co-direct the short film “The Block”. The film was the opener and winner at The New Orleans, African American, and Indy Film Showcase. The short was also the opener for the TV show Time Code to help lure teens away from crime and into film.

Mr. Augustin was featured on Time Code Nola as an upcoming screenwriter/producer from New Orleans, Louisiana. He is considered one of many talented, up and coming screenwriters from New Orleans. These days, Mr. Augustin is very busy, with several film and TV projects in the works. He dreams to one day own a production company, along with a program to inspire and bring more disabled people into film.
