The wonderful world of entertainment has been a part of my life since birth. My first experience with the bright lights and television cameras came when Cordelia Kelly announced my arrival into this, our world, on WFMY-TV Channel 2 in Greensboro, North Carolina. My mother worked at television stations from WTVT in Tampa, Florida to WFMY in Greensboro, North Carolina before settling in at WTVD in Durham, North Carolina. I would appear on the morning children’s programs riding the old red tricycle or just running around having fun. My grandfather was Chief Engineer at various radio stations from WXRO in Roxboro, North Carolina to popular FM stations in the Triangle area. This gave me the unique opportunity to learn the workings of the airways from the transmitters behind the scenes to the on-air personalities. There is nothing quite as fun for a 9 year old as announcing the morning weather on air, interviewing a sports legend like Enos Slaughter, or getting to talk with local country musician headed for Nashville, Tennessee. This is just a small sampling of my experiences but a key part of my life that lead me to found Across the Canvas Productions in 1978. Across the Canvas Productions offers an outlet for aspiring talents of all ages, actors, artist, writers, producers, directors, dancers, models, photographers, musicians, comedians, and all those who have chosen to reach for their endless dreams with a stroke of a pen or a melody of colors cast across a blank surface.
