About Vanessa
Vanessa Evans is a freelance dancer, actor, playwright, and director residing in Harlem, New York. As a Bronx native, Vanessa has lent her passion as a theatre instructor, child and family advocate and educational activist in a variety of institutions, including the NYC Charter School Association, the “I Have a Dream” Foundation, and the Jewish Child Care Association’s Theatre for Action. In addition, Vanessa works as an ensemble cast member of the Big Apple Playback Theatre as an improvisational actor and an audience “conductor”, with performances spanning ten years throughout the country. Vanessa is the Founder and Executive Director of the Talking Drum Theatre Arts Program, a grassroots theatre arts not-profit organization teaching conflict resolution strategies to youth through the fusion of scriptwriting, acting, dance, art expression and poetry. Talking Drum performances highlight topics commercialized in the media, including teen suicide, date rape, sex trafficking, and the plight of education. She is viewed by many as an educator, activist, mentor, and friend to those without a voice. Vanessa is a graduate of SUNY Lehman College with a master’s degree in Special Education and is finalizing her license as a psychodramatist.
