Chelsey Fawcett is a Canadian theatre artist working across Canada and internationally as a director, performer, producer and playwright. She is currently resides as the Managing Director for Kaeja d'Dance.
Three years ago she founded Square Cat Entertainment which focuses on producing theatre works from countries of political turmoil to provide knowledge about cultures in attempts to educate against racism and support minority voices on Canadian stages.
Chelsey is an award winning animation director (Telus Storyhive) for her work on Noonright (2015). She was nominated for Director of the Year from the Calgary Critter awards for her work on The Basement Boys (2014).
Chelsey is a graduate from the University of Windsor’s Drama department. Chelsey performs regularly within the Middle Eastern communities of Calgary and has traveled through Canada and Australia teaching physical theatre and acting techniques for Middle Eastern dance.
Chelsey's directing style derives from physical theatre and the combination of methods used in Middle Eastern performance techniques fused with Grotowski's Poor Theatre philosophy. As a producer, she utilizes her business knowledge from five years of corporate experience in business development. She has Six Sigma project management training and experience in running large budget projects and has her Conceptual Sales Certificate from Miller Heiman. She uses this education to fuel her passion of mentoring artists to be successful artists in the art of business in hopes of developing a more financially sustainable theatre ecology.
Chelsey is available to work on projects as a director and choreographer across Canada and internationally. She is excited to work with artists looking to tell amazing stories!
