About Champagne

My name is Lady Champagne. I was born in Louisiana the place where I was surrounded with some down home Blues music. By age twelve I started performing in talent shows along with school glee club and church Choir. At age fourteen, my family and I left Louisiana and moved to the west side of Detroit were music became an important part of my education as well as a part of my life. Age thirty, I went to some of the most popular Detroit Blues clubs that was located in the Metro Detroit area like the 20 Grand, Ethels Lounge, Henry's Palace and Phelps Lounge to see and hear what the blues was really talking about. Thanks to one of my family members I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to meet and share the stage with some of the great Blues artist like Johnny Taylor, B.B.King, Bobby Blue Bland and Tyrone Davis.

Blues, Gospel and R&B music has also been a part of my singing career. I joined New Bethel Baptist Church where the great singer Aretha Franklin attend and her father Reverend C.L. Franklin was the pastor. I was there several years singing in the choir. Combining my love of Gospel and Blues has awarded me the rich and soulful sound I call my own. In recent years, I've had the pleasure of sharing the stage and singing background for the great gospel singer Rev Ortheia Barnes, Blues man Luther Badman Keith, and Jazz Lady Vonnie and Company. With Vonnie, we had the honor of opening for the Legendary Jazz man Mr. Joe Sample at the Music Hall. I had the pleasure of performing on recording artist Mr. L.J. Reynolds of the Dramatics latest video entitle you been cheating on me. I've shared the stage with R&B artist Mr. E.J. Johnson the lead singer from the group the Enchantment and the beautiful Motown Recording Artist Miss Martha Reeves. In 2006 I've perform on stage with some of the greatest blues singers from KoKo Taylor, Johnny Bassett, Alberta Adams, Blues man Mr.Chick Willis and the Blues man Sir Mack Rice. My band and I was chosen to open up for the Legend of the Blues concert featuring Mr. Bobby Blue Bland, Theodis Earley, and Clearance Carter.

In 2010 and 2013 I was nominated for Best Female Blues singer for the Black Music Awards. This event was held at Bert's Warehouse Theater downtown Detroit. Late Nov 2012 I was honor to receive the Happy to have the Blues award that was held at UDETROIT Media Cafe that was sponsor by the Big City Blues Magazine. I am both band leader and lead vocalist for my group called Champagne and the Motor City Blues Crew Band. This is a 7 piece music ensemble with Paul Stewart on Bass, T. Pablo on Harmonica, Larry T. on Guitar, Willie Willie on Keyboards, Richard Adams on Sax, Lorrell Holten on Drums. My new CD is call You Don't Know What Love Is. A great CD with a lot of great musicians to spice up the flavor. I am a song writer and a high energy entertainer. I love the great melodic sound of harmony.

Champagne and the Motor City Blues Crew Band had the honor of performed at a benefit for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, host by Mitch Album of WJR 760 AM and was also a guest on his show. And a special interview for radio personality the blues man Mr. Jay Butler 101.9 FM. My band and I perform in some beautiful night clubs and dinner clubs located in the Metro area.
