Expand postI'm developing a video portal site for high quality short/micro films and WebTv series to display to a niche market for todays limited time lifestyle that we all have. Eventually adapted for mobile phones and tablets etc to reach the broad base of viewer who want a quick snack of entertainment when they have the time. All films/music video and possibly feature trailers of all genres will be uploaded after a screening process to ensure the quality of the site for promotion etc to raise the bar for this type of content. If interested please add me here and send an email first to introduce yourself and project to rgboz@hotmail.com and please spread the word. If approved we will need a copyright sign off form which we will supply to keep all legal and we will then link a screen shot to the host server so you will gain double exposure. It's a start up site so we are looking forward to viewing your projects and getting them out to the masses. Many thanks Russell Buchanan
Russell, What is the critical mass threshold for your platform in terms of visiting traffic?
Please Help support what promises to be a groundbreaking feature film currently in pre production http://igg.me/p/218275
Thx, please visit my novels at www.snedelton.com...
With the internet being flooded with new content everyday, does anyone know of any good tips to get your short films the best possible views without spamming the crap out of people?

Thanks for the add, Brian!

Expand commentI don't know. It all depends on where you want to go. If you're looking to maybe get your 'chops' and something for your resume, and not all about the money then Youtube is the place to go.They're all good places to go... For different reasons. Facebook and YouTube are king. Don't kid yourself if you think otherwise. The potential reach on the worst day ever to post on Facebook or Youtube is still better than all the other sites.... put together. LOL You just have to try and engage people and not spam the crap out of them. That's counter productive. Vimeo is a great site. But one important thing you should remember and consider is that Vimeo is mainly visited by video creators. They are drawn to the better quality it offers. The regular person who may watch your film goes to YouTube.... most "Regular joes" don't even know what Vimeo is. Do you see my point? For support from people in the industry Vimeo is great. But are other producers/directors going to watch your film the same as a regular person would? Not at all. Like I said. YouTube is king for the regular viewer. But, one piece of advice I got from me good ol' Mom.... retrofitted to be used in this situation. Even the smallest video sites (Let's say 1000 regular users) is still 1000 people you wouldn't have otherwise. So, in a nutshell... why not use them all?
Thanks for all the feed back everyone. I will definitly take it all into consideration!

Happy that our friends at Archimedes Media Lab won best actress and story for Austin's 48-Hour film project. Glad we were able to help in their production!

Expand postA few years ago I worked on an independent, low budget, horror flick. Mostly to show investors that we could make a film and they could make money. Several distributors picked it up and it's being released around the world. Though we've already made money just by garnering distribution it seems that there really isn't much being done to promote the movie now that it's out of our hands. Direct to DVD was hard enough and now with digital down loads how do you get your movie noticed? There are some distributors doing better than others at promotion. Not sure it matters so much with this movie but for future projects I'd love to try some new things. Any ideas? Any experiences?
Unless it is a Studio Pic, You the Producer and/or Director NEED to do the PR. Otherwise it won't probably get done. I'm sure that your pic was one of hundreds or maybe thousands, and you weren't probably paid much for it upfront. I could be wrong.

Expand commentwe create low budget films and recoup our costs and show a profit off initial sales to distributors. Distributors have based purchase price primarily on production costs/ quality of product. But as you may or may not know. In order to have any sort of advertising it has to be negotiated into distribution contracts or you have to do it yourself. If you do it yourself you need to have money earmarked for advertising this becomes part of your production costs since the likely hood of seeing any money from distributors before your movie has fizzled and waned is somewhat unlikely. Most distributors pay on a quarterly basis and distributors like to have money coming in before sending anything out. So more than likely your film will have been on the market several months before you see any actual return on investment.
