November 1972. My hair was darker then, my heart was lighter then. This is me standing North of the Korean DMZ near the Bridge of No Return. The blurry building at the top of the hill in the background is the "Ice Cream Parlor," a North Korean observation post and fortress.

John Sammon and David Thornton play golf within sight of North Korea (top of picture in the background) at the UN Joint Security Area in 1972. This golf course, one of the few in Korea, and the only one North of the DMZ, featured three tee-offs and just one hole with a dusty, patchy crabgrass green. If you hit your ball over the fence seen below, you could climb the fence and hit the ball in a minefield, or you could take two strokes and hit again where you were. Nobody ever climbed the fence. The course was the only one in Korea sanctioned by the PGA, Panmunjom Golf Association.

The baby in It Lives Again

For over 100 years historians believed that Billy the Kid was left handed because the only authenticated photo of him taken in 1880 showed him with his gun on his left hip. The original photo however had been printed on a glass plate, reversing the image. Billy was in reality right handed and wore his gun on his right hip.

In 1972 I was a squad member of the First Platoon (kneeling with rifle) at the Joint Security Area and the Bridge of No Return north of the DMZ on the border of North Korea.

Me doing a comedy bit "Why Testicles?" In comedy, 30 percent of the audience may laugh, 30 percent think you're a jerk, 30 percent have no reaction at all. This is good. In baseball, one hit in three times at bat is a 300 average.
