About Jack

I'm an Emmy winning (three times nominated) lighting director/designer. In that capacity, I've worked directly with three sitting US Presidents and scores of A-list stars. In my New York years, way back in the early 1990's I was Joan Lunden's lighting director, Matt Lauer's lighting director and Howard Stern's lighting director every day of the week and all at the same time - busy guy!

In the mid 1990's, I moved to LA, where all of us eventually end up. For me the reasons were multi-fold. In addition to my lighting work, there are other passions that drive me.

Way back in my 1980's, Boston days, I did stand up comedy and some acting while making my living as a lighting director doing commercials and working at WGBH, the PBS flagship station at the time.

Above everything else, writing has always been my strongest passion. My screenwriting work was a prime motivation for the LA move as well. So far I've written 5 screenplays, one of which has the great Vilmos Zsigmond attached to direct. Another one has the also great Haskell Wexler attached to direct. I seem to have a knack for attracting aging, iconic DP's.

The first of my two novels, has fourteen 5 Star reviews on amazon. The second, though finished is still in manuscript form. I've just finished writing a screenplay "for hire" for two producers who are combining to make the film. At this point, they should remain nameless.

I also have written a screenplay based on my all time hero, topical singer/songwriter, Phil Ochs. Most of Phil's family is behind me as well as Phil's old friends and folk singers, including the late Pete Seeger.

I've now moved up the coast about an hour from LA in Ventura. I've got a great place with a panoramic view of the Pacific from my deck. I'm writing full time and loving life.

Unique traits: Who knows! If we meet, you tell me.

  • CLOSE PROXIMITY

CLOSE PROXIMITY Historical Most people think that they know the full Titanic story but the don't. Not nine miles away, that night, a British tramp steamer watched the whole event but never came to the rescue. CLOSE PROXIMITY tells the story of the tramp steamer and her crew's subsequent descent into hell. A tragic journey of Shakespearean proportions.

  • THE GREAT DIVIDE

THE GREAT DIVIDE Historical BASED ON A LITTLE KNOW BUT TRUE HISTORICAL EVENT: In the Depression's cruelest year, 1932: A widowed, jobless, World War one Veteran, desperate to feed what's left of his family, travels across the country to join fellow WWI vets in Washington DC, to demand promised bonus money for having won the war. An embarrassment to President Hoover, sics the present-day army, led by Douglas MacArthur and flanked by Eisenhower and Patton to disperse them. The result is a major, war-like, battle within sight of the White House and Capitol building.

  • WHILE I'M HERE

WHILE I'M HERE Historical The story of my all time hero, topical singer/songwriter, Phil Ochs who became the spear head of the 1960's anti-war movement. He waged his battles with a mix of incisive clarity, comic overview and the courage to leave the stage and join the front lines. For all of the wonderful good he did, he died by his own hand in myth-laden April of our Bi-centennial year - 1976
