Hi everyone,
I'm a composer and sound designer from Utah. This seems like a really cool community. Hope to build some relationships with like minded people. Favorite film I've seen recently is Super Dark Times.

Expand postHi All, This may not be the right forum to ask this question, but here we go. I am currently working on a stop motion animation web series. After 5 years of hard work, we are finally in production of season 1 which consists of 8 episodes that are 20 minutes each. We plan to release episode 1 this summer. We have obtained copyrights on all 8 scripts for season 1. Now here is my question. Do I need to copyright or trademark my images and puppets also? And if so, how would I go about doing that? For example, The Simpsons is set in Springfield which consists of a large cast of characters, all of which are a part of the Simpsons brand. I have a similar scenario in which I have a town, Center Square, and 79 puppets that will be on screen throughout the 8 episodes of season 1. So, since the scripts have a copyright, are the characters that appear in the scripts covered by said copyright? Or will I need to copyright each puppet? I have never dealt with the legalities of images before, only written word, so I want to make sure that we develop our brand in a way that can't be legally ripped off. I am sorry that I rambled on, I just want to cover my ass. Thank you in advance for any advice you can give!
Thank you so much!!

I have finished my script but I am writing as an on spec TV episode series. I have written the Pilot episode and I was just wondering if I should shoot it as a Web series. Anyone has an idea how I should approach this?
You are so welcome. Blessings to you!

Expand commentI agree with both suggestions. I am in a similar situation. I have 2 seasons in the works totaling 23 episodes for my show. We are hoping to gain more exposure by making it accessible online as a web series, but we also plan on releasing our show on our local public access channel (one of our voice actors works there so we have an in), but we fear that we will be limiting our audience if we only release the show on said channel. But we are in a much smaller city than NYC. I guess what I am trying to say is that we are going to release our show anywhere we can to get the most viewers possible.
Colleen- Got you covered! Not only do I show them on the cable system I upload them too, make a youtube channel as well...take a look at youtube.com then search Frank Vespe to see some of my shows. (I'm the guy standing next to the tripod.)

My technical training is in classical arts, figure drawing, oil painting, and paper cut-outs, but I have always had a passion for film. We have recently wrapped up pre-production and have begun filming season 1 of our stop motion animation web series called Theater of the Absurd. We are also in the process of writing the scripts for the 15 episodes that will make up season 2. We currently have a cast of 12 voice actors signed on to the project, as well as local artists and musicians involved in our show. We hope to release episode 1 by the summer of 2015!
that's awesome! welcome to the site - I'm new to it myself actually, I love your production name McH2O very original :)
Thanks guys! I am really looking forward to meeting lots of new people through this site!
I can't take credit for our name :) My husband is an electrician by day and that is what he writes on his tools so they don't get lost on the construction site haha
