About Philip

A film researcher of over 30 years standing. 1981 - I worked on Victor Schonfeld's groundbreaking documentary "The Animals Film" narrated by Julie Christie, music by Robert Wyatt and Talking Heads. 1982 - 1987 I worked for Channel 4's current affairs shows "The Friday Alternative" and "Diverse Reports". 1987 to 2009 I was the staff film researcher for ITV's award-wiining arts show "The South Bank Show". In 2003 I found the only authenticated archive footage of writer George Orwell. 2008 "The Animals Film" was restored by the British Film Institute and released on DVD. Since 2009 I have worked for the BBC on an Elton John profile, worked for Vintage TV, Heyday Films, and for Dependable Productions, an online documentary "The Enemy Within - 50 Years of Cancer Research". From January 2013 I have been assisting "Still The Enemy Within" a major documentary film that looks again at the 1984/5 UK Great Miners Strike from the rank and file perspective of the miners, their families and supporters involved. After winning the Audience Prize at the prestigious Sheffield Film Festival in June 2014 the film went into cinema distribution where it is still being screened. It has received rave reviews and Paul Mason said in the Guardian newspaper 13.10.2014 that it was the best assembly of archive film that he has ever seen. My credit was as consultant film researcher.

Unique traits: In 2003 I found the only verified archive footage of the British writer George Orwell. It led to a live interview on UK Channel 4 News and front page coverage in the Independent national UK newspaper.
