About Steven

Blank Canvas, a short play, was selected as one of 50 finalists for 2013 Heideman Award at the Actors Theatre of Louisville. His new full-length play The Night Witches premiered at Texas Woman’s University and was performed at the Brighton Media Centre as part of the UK Fringe. His play The King’s Face (KF) was originally produced Off West End by Giant Olive Theatre Company in London where it received five star reviews. KF was the winner of both the 2013 FutureFest and Southwest Playwriting Competitions. The script received staged readings at the Blank Theatre in Hollywood, Panglossian Productions in Williamsburg, VA and at Amphibian Stage Productions in Fort Worth, TX. KF was a finalist for the Woodard/Newman Drama Award and was a semifinalist at the Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte. His One-Act play Under the Overpass (UO), was produced in NYC at the Maddox Theatre by the Nylon Fusion Theatre Company for the Freedom Fringe; UO was the Literary Award winner at the TeCo Arts Play Festival and a finalist for the Method and Madness Festival at the Pointbank Black Box Theatre. The Night We Bombed Lincoln Towing was a finalist for the Method and Madness Playwriting Festival. Boiling Frog has been produced twice at Chicago’s Side Project Theatre. Young was a contributing writer to Longing With Language at the Philadelphia Fringe. His short play Exit Caesar Chavez was accepted into the Mid America Theatre Conference new play workshop and was selected as an alternate for the ATHE Conference new plays panel. The Resurrectionists was originally performed at The Virginia Stage Company and then produced in Chicago; the windy city production was nominated for two Joseph Jefferson Citations and received a staged reading at the Abingdon Theatre in NYC. The Wal*Mart-ians, produced by the Boxer Rebellion Ensemble, was a Jerome Fellowship Finalist at the Minneapolis Playwrights Center and was heralded by Chicago Arts and Entertainment as the best comedy of the year and was a finalist for the Reva Shiner Comedy Award. Cheddar Heads was a Prop Thtr National New Plays finalist in conjunction with the National New Plays Network; Cheddar Heads received productions at the Theatre Building-Chicago and the Milwaukee School of the Arts. Brown Couch Theatre Company produced Fish Out of Water. Young authored the short film A Wedge of Orange that premiered at the Margate Film Festival in Kent, UK and was selected as the Audience Favorite. Steve adapted both Strindberg’s Creditors and Sophocles’ Oedipus for Broken Gears Project Theatre in Dallas. His adaptations of The Cherry Orchard, A Christmas Carol and Lysistrata have had multiple productions throughout the South and the Midwest. Steve is also a Stand-up comedian and has performed in venues across the UK and Ireland. Young has a certificate in novel writing from City University of London. His working novel The Anatomist was selected in the top 40 out of thousands of entrants for the BBC show Novel Pitch.
