Emma J Steele grew up in country South Australia, moving five times over ten years, attending seven different schools and universities until she gained her first writing credit at the modest age of 22 on LAW OF THE LAND (Nine Network). Following yet another move interstate to Melbourne, Emma went on to write and script edit for the children’s series ADVENTURES OF THE BUSH PATROL (Seven Network), serials BREAKERS (Ten Network), CRASH PALACE (Fox8) and NEIGHBOURS (Ten Network, Hulu). Deciding she needed a break, Emma opened two successful and award winning small businesses, a café and retail gift store, as well as producing two equally challenging children. After five years, Emma returned to television where she wrote, script edited and was the supervising script editor for NEIGHBOURS. Most recently, Emma wrote and script edited the first series of the critically acclaimed and Most Outstanding Australian Drama winner at the 2014 ASTRA Awards and AACTA Best Drama Series nominee, WENTWORTH (Soho, Foxtel, Netflix) and story and script edited the second series of MISS FISHER’S MURDER MYSTERIES (ABC, Netflix). Emma was also recently nominated for an Australian Writers Guild 'AWGIE' award for a Neighbours script she wrote. Emma currently resides in a small country town, north of Melbourne with said children, husband and now, two dogs, writing and developing several projects, both features and pilots.
