SYNOPSIS:
The Meridian Hotel was right on the U.S. Canada border line a mile from Champlain, New York. An orphanage for girls was within view of the border. Doris had been placed in the orphanage and as she was growing up she yearned to be part of their glamorous life style. Eventually she runs away from the orphanage and is picked up by Dutch Schultz. He thinks she is easy to influence but she soon shows him and joins the band of smugglers at the Meridian where she meets George, the piano player who likes to shoot the line. He is a great piano player, dancer, hockey player, singer and Doris loves the attention he showers on her. Dutch visits the Meridian to bring her back but gets involved in their lucrative business instead. Doris wounds the torpedo Dutch had sent to keep an eye on her. Shortly after this the torpedo gets killed by a secret agent in the gang working for the FBI. Doris is now suspected of this killing and George tries to protect her by taking responsibility for the death. He is hauled off to jail and eventually hangs. Doris, having realized that George is innocent tries to find the real killer but is unable to do so in time to save George. Doris winds up returning to Dutch Schultz somewhat jaded by the process and hopes to see justice done via the gang world of Dutch Schultz.
