About Mike

Mike Stivala is a twenty year veteran of the film and television business. Based out of New York City, Mike began as an editor honing his craft as a storyteller on documentary projects for clients such as NBC, HBO, ESPN, VH1 and ABC.

In 2000 Mike founded Steel Tree Films. He then made the leap to writer/director helming the feature film Rat Bastard. His first scripted project, the dark comedy screened at film festivals all over the country, won several awards and was picked up for distribution.

From there Mike decided to combine his passion for storytelling with his fist love – television. He thrived as a show-runner, director, writer and producer on projects for Travel Channel, Lifetime, History Channel, Discovery Channel, HBO, Nuvo TV and VH1.

Mike’s work over the years has run the gamut from sports to music, drama to comedy, reality to scripted. The one thing that has remained steadfast is Mike’s passion to find great stories and tell them in a unique way. His work as earned him Monitor Awards, several film festival awards and three National Emmys- one as an editor, two as a producer/director.

Currently, Mike is working as a show-runner, producer and director for several television projects in New York. Currently Mike is executive producer of "You Are Nothing" a web series starring Henry Winkler, Joel Bryant and Tessa Munro. The project is on schedule for a 2016 release. In addition, he has another project, Life at the Bottom, an animated series in development.
