SYNOPSIS:

SNAKE DADDY is a post-watershed drama which rakes its fingernails through the festering sores of alcoholism, drug abuse and dysfunctional relationships.

In this story,

A rock star, twisted by fame, fortune and addiction, confronts a choice of futures when he's left holding a baby he never expected to have.

Snake hit the big time as a rock singer then blew it with an addiction to alcohol he struggles to control. While his career was at its height, his wife, suffering from post-natal depression, committed suicide leaving Snake with a serious guilt complex and a child he didn't have time for.

With the help of his old roadie, BIF, he's been drying out for months and has reached the point where he feels he's strong enough to make a come-back.

Snake's daughter, ELENA who was fostered and raised by her grandparents, has had little contact with Snake over the years. One day, after a fight with her boyfriend, she turns up unexpectedly and with a surprise package, she's pregnant.

Is this a chance to make up for his past mistakes? Snake thinks so.

Snake never made it as a father and this could be the one and only time he'll have the opportunity to have parental influence. He wants to be part of his grandchild's life and to look after his daughter. Elena's doesn't believe him and she's set on abortion because the baby's father is too much like her dad.

With that, even Snake agrees. He's met CHARLIE on the music circuit and can't abide him. The really is too much of a reminder of Snake himself when he was younger.

Snake wants Charlie out of Elena's life. Its not happening. Elena's not ready to say goodbye to her boyfriend and sees Charlie behind Snake's back. It gets worse when Snake's manager, TOM, takes on Charlie's band and sets them up to back Snake on his come back tour.

As manipulative as ever, Snake uses Charlie's personal ambition to get his own way and gives the young couple an ultimatum. Keep the baby and Charlie gets the job. If not, his participation in the tour is off. Elena, still infatuated with the young musician, hasn't the heart to deprive Charlie of the chance to fulfill his life desire and gives in, albeit unwillingly, to Snake's wishes.

Snake, in his need to be in control takes it upon himself to be Charlie's mentor which causes some serious clashes as the tour starts. It gets worse and Snake's ego takes a pounding as Charlie's band hit the number one spot in the charts.

Elena goes into labour and gives birth to a girl. For Snake its love at first sight. He is utterly and totally smitten. For Charlie, well, he's pretty indifferent and can only see as far as his next gig. He should be more worried about the baby and caring for her as far as Snake's concerned, but Charlie prefers to revel in the accolades that are being piled on him.

The tours over, but there's another surprise to come. Tom visits Charlie and breaks the news of a pending contract in the States.

Snake makes the decision of a lifetime and offers to look after the baby while Elena accompanies Charlie overseas. The intimacy he finds with his granddaughter turns into the happiest moments of his life and he realises what a waster he's been.

Out one day with the baby, Snake is chased by paparazzi and is rescued by the doctor who cared for Elena during her pregnancy. Snake fancied her then, still does and invites her to the house for coffee. The story ends on an element of promise of a new relationship and a new era beginning in Snake's life.

This protagonist is narcissistic to the extreme. He'll drive you to distraction with anger and frustration, but ultimately he'll reduce you to tears when he redeems himself and proves he's human after all.

Thanks Boomer. There's probably a lot of rock star stuff out there. Can't imagine our characters will be the same though, Glad you're still being positive...I need a serious dose of that!
