Hello, fellow creatives!
My name is Kalyan Sura. I'm a Writer/ Director/ Producer & VFX Supervisor, originally from India, currently living and working in the US.
I have a background in Computer Science, Animation, and VFX, and an MFA in film production from the University of Southern California (USC). I worked in animation at DreamWorks Animations and MPC before I fully embraced the dark side - Writing/ Directing.
And things have (for the most part) been great. I worked as a Story Editor on a South Indian Feature Film. My fantasy/adventure animation pilot ‘JACKIE & JILAL’ was the Grand Prize Winner of the ISA TV PITCH CONTEST 2023. My first science fiction feature screenplay ‘MEMORY LANES’ set in a futuristic South India, placed in the top 0.1% of the ‘IMAGINE x NETFLIX FEMALE THRILLER CONTEST 2020,’ and my second sci-fi feature ‘THE EXTRAORDINARY INNER LIVES OF ENGINEER ATUL KULKARNI’ is a finalist at the ‘1497 South Asian Writer’s Lab 2023,’ and was mentioned on DEADLINE HOLLYWOOD.
My award-winning sci-fi short ‘THE LIE GAME,’ became the first short film with an all-South-Asian cast to be distributed by DUST, YouTube’s largest sci-fi channel. My recent short film ‘DOS BROS FORCE,’ – a South Asian immigrant dramedy – which I wrote and directed after winning the NETFLIX-backed production grant, has screened at 30 international film festivals, winning 14 awards.
I usually write stories featuring minorities, especially South Asians, in genres that haven’t historically portrayed us as heroes ala - Sci-fi, fantasy, dramas, and animation. (Come to think of it, every other genre, actually!)
I’m excited to be here and grow my community of creatives. I’m happy to chat about video games, anime, soccer, cats, movies, technology, and quantum physics.

Still "waiting" to hear (not really). Can hardly wait to hear back from the three "professionals" who, post pitch, requested the same script in 2023 (not really).

Expand commentMichael Elliot: Stage 32 boasts over a million members. I'm sure personal individual customer service is absolutely impossible for that many people without a staff/sub-contractors in the hundreds of thousands: numbers count. But, if each member pays somebody $35.00 US for a service, the company has made a tidy profit. Some will drop out, some will be satisfied and pay again and again, making up for those drop outs. We're here (what? give up show business?!), and even if we aren't delighted, we like the folks here and want to participate. I've learned a lot just from the posts and reactions. Thank heavens, it's a website, and not a weighing station for my soul.

I believe they do an above average job of handling customer issues. And it's not their fault if the professionals don't act like professionals. It's like the old gambling phrase, "you pay your money and you take your chances".

My experience has been that these times vary in terms of how long before you get feedback etc. Some have taken a month or so others two weeks
