Franchise Creator

I've been trying to zero in on, who in movie making history has single handedly created 1 or more original franchises besides George Lucas?

The guys from the Matrix?

Reoccurring themes

I know that as a filmmaker and as an individual you always have to +1 and reinvent yourself, but one of my concerns is for example master and disciple relationship or finding strength in vulnerability are some of the themes I want to convey in my movies. My sort of worry is if I make a couple of mov...

I don't see why.

If its conveyed to the audience in the right way then I cant see you having many issues. But like any movie it may not appeal to everyone.

Creating an image

I need advice I'm just stepping into the industry world and already really creating waves of content, but what would be the best method of distributing and getting recognition should I have my name only attached to the movie or can also I have my name and production company name represent the movie? Thank you all

Regina Lee

Maybe I'm missing some context, but I am honestly baffled by the advice you've been given. What am I missing? Rhetorical. It's certainly possible there is some missing context here that would clearly explain the reason behind that advice.

Eddie Orozco

I just ask my instructor direct as that. Me: To get recognition should I just have my name on my movie or can I have a production company name also.

Regina Lee

OK, let's use a basketball analogy. If you market yourself as a potential NBA Center and a Point Guard, people are going to think, "This guy is clueless. You can't be both a Center and a Point Guard."...

Jurassic World

It's back again this friday! At first when I saw the teaser I thought it was going to be a shitty, because I go direct to the hatred feeling of anything from Hollywood now, but now after hearing interviews from the director who is a Jurassic park fan and aims to input a sole in a movie I will say th...

Web Series Format

I'm planning on starting a web series and I'm considering on shooting it like a feature film, but splitting it up like into episodes. For those who have done web series or have any other advice I would like to know.

Short film vs Feature film

Right now I'm confused as to which is a career setter a short film or feature film. I know that a short film has to be direct and with a simple concept, but for me I want to be direct, but I want to take people on a journey and explore multiple concepts and throw complex characters into those scenar...

Depends on your resources. Is it as simple as picking between the 2? Or do you have stronger resources for one vs the other? Rhetorical.

Just got back from the theatre… WOW! Spectacular visuals! Freakin' crazy set-pieces and sequences! LOVED IT!

Just saw it. So awesome a lot going on, but you don't get lost. It was also great to finally see a strong female lead in a mainstream movie.

Shawn, thanks for posting that link. Great read. It was especially encouraging to hear someone else say that a writer is not necessarily strongest working from planning mode, as I rarely write that wa...

Critical thinking over artistic view

I understand that art films are the pinnacle of the independent filmmaking side of hollywood. I respect the craft and passion that is poured into them. It's also amazing to me that they achieve Oscars. My personal question and seeking advice is what if you don't want to tell a message and a story in...

Thank you for the response Hugh. With what you said could you get a studio on board with that complexity, because this could just be me, but it seems like the content now a days has plot holes, poor dialog, and poor characters.

Hugh Blanc

If you were to write Inception or Interstellar as a first time writer, I'm pretty sure the answer would be "No." Those High-Complex-Concept movies got made based on the Nolan name. (The story goes tha...

O.K so I should take a "Crawl before you walk" approach?

Hugh Blanc

Yes, I'd suggest you earn the producer's confidence first. Consider it a challenge to write an intelligently complex script with few special effects.

Yes.
