Amanda Dettrick is an Australian writer, producer and actor.
After working as an actor, she moved to work behind the camera and gained an Undergraduate degree in Literature and Film and Television at the University of Queensland, and a Master of Screen Producing from Griffith University. She is the Producer of the short film AWAY (22 minutes, Director: Herman Van Eyken, Starring Robert Colby), which was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2014. She also worked as the Locations Manager for BULLETS FOR THE DEAD, feature film 2014, Produced by Cathy Rodda.
She was recently commissioned by Garry Gallagher and Philip Denson to write a feature film on the Bombing of Darwin. Set in 1942, this intertwined character drama is based on real events and real heroes, including a First Nations man who is the first person to capture an enemy on Australian soil. This story is Gallipoli meets Dunkirk.
Amanda writes original content, including feature films and television series. Her feature film, Mary, based on the life of Mary Wollstonecraft, won her the Best First Time Screenwriter at the New York Film Awards in 2018. On feedback from the industry, she has reworked the original idea into a limited series, originally titled The Marys, now titled, Who is Mary Wollstonecraft? She has completed the first feature length episode and produced an outline for the limited series. She is currently working on creating a Pitch Deck for Who is Mary Wollstonecraft?
Her other projects include a long form, mystery series set in the 1980s and an animated, mixed reality, children's series.
