Just watched Fight Club again last night. It really wouldn't work without voice-over narration. Shawshank Redemption used it. If there's context necessary prior to a scene, why not have it come "straight from the horse's mouth"?

I like narration. I keep hearing the same thing, it’s a product of an underdeveloped script. In some cases I agree. I have seen it used improperly. For one, not every actor can pull it off. However, that hasn’t stopped me from using it if I feel the story is better served with it.
Sunset Blvd, Forrest Gump, Shawshank Redemption, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Fight Club, Blade Runner, Apocalypse Now, Memento, Citizen Kane, Pulp Fiction, The Usual Suspects, Stand By Me, The Third Man, Jules et Jim. This list and more should be tattooed on Robert McKee's forehead to remind him.
One technique I watched today that sorta replaces V.O. narration is - vlogs - video logs.
Saw it in Tom Cruise's American Made. Also in The Martian and Avatar.

This is a network for you, built by you. Like most things in life, the more you participate, the greater the rewards. We ask all new members to pay it forward by inviting 5 fellow creatives to the network and by spreading the word of Stage 32 through other social media sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. The more creatives, the stronger the network. The stronger the network, the more opportunities.
Thanks for joining the movement and for being a part of this most talented and inspiring community. I very much look forward to your contributions.
Thanks, and have a creative day!
RB
